Overview

This tracker records published nationwide party-vote intention and extends the comparable archive back through earlier electoral eras where sources permit. The chart preserves poll-level evidence and election markers without turning a trend or weighted average into an election forecast.

Electoral system context

New Zealand uses mixed-member proportional representation. The party vote largely determines each qualifying party's overall share of seats, while electorate seats are filled separately; a party normally qualifies through the party-vote threshold or by winning an electorate under the applicable rules.

Party and bloc rationale

The local balance groups Labour, Green and Te Pāti Māori against National, ACT and New Zealand First. Historical parties and other entries remain outside where no reviewed equivalence exists. The grouping is a Bismuth navigation aid for New Zealand and is not an official coalition label or international scale.

Polling limitations

Party-vote polling does not predict electorate contests, turnout, overhangs or final coalition agreements, and pollsters differ in sampling and undecided treatment. Early periods contain fewer comparable polls and different party systems, so declared gaps and excluded historical keys must remain visible.
