Overview

This archive follows published nationwide support for parties contesting elections to Austria's National Council. It preserves changing party labels across cycles and uses the current local balance only where a reviewed period identifies the relevant party keys.

Electoral system context

National Council seats are allocated proportionally through regional, state and federal stages. A party normally needs the national threshold or a direct regional mandate to participate in allocation, so small changes around eligibility can have consequences that a smooth trend does not show.

Party and bloc rationale

The local balance groups SPÖ, Greens and KPÖ against ÖVP, FPÖ and historical BZÖ, while NEOS and other entries remain outside. This is a Bismuth navigation aid tied to Austrian party context and source dates, not an official coalition label or international ideology scale.

The current source-cycle balance counts SPÖ, Greens and KPÖ against ÖVP and FPÖ. Historical BZÖ observations remain available as party series, outside the current balance; BZÖ is absent from the current source-cycle tables. Polling limitations

National polling cannot reproduce regional mandate paths, candidate effects or post-election coalition decisions. Party successions and new lists complicate long comparisons, and pollsters differ in small-party reporting and undecided allocation; missing values and periods are never treated as zero.

Bloc summaries use complete paired polls within 45 days of the latest archive record, weighted by recency and sample size. Both sides use the same eligible polls. The tracker and map show the number of complete polls and their supporting date, which can precede the latest archive record; missing parties are not assigned zero. The comparison’s latest-poll balance is a separate individual observation.
